Thanks Arvilla for a delicious recipe, I simplified the process by using frozen bread dough, thaw per directions, knead, roll out flat to a half-dozen x 10" rectangle, let rising, prepare filling, I also used canned lemon pie filling, spread it along side cream cheese and so wrapped dough over filling forming a ring, topped with lemon glaze and sprinkles, the best and easy too!!!

This is a wonderful Rex's Block. I idea the glaze was a fiddling to lemony, merely, when on top of the wonderful Male monarch'due south Cake with the filling, it is perfect! I did have a petty problem getting the dough to remain closed after putting in the filling. I retrieve side by side time I will scroll the dough out a little larger and so I have more to piece of work with on the closing. The filling is wonderfully flossy and sweet, very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. This cake was easy and pretty fast. It is very kid friendly, both in the making and eatting! Give it a endeavour you'll similar it!!
02/12/2002
Very good. I would reduce the amount of liquids in the icing. It was very thin, near of it ran off the block. When I made it again I used the juice from a lemon and powder carbohydrate, it was perfect. I likewise doubled the cream cheese filling and it came of delish!!!
02/01/2002
i have been looking for the cream cheese filling used in nola rex cakes this is it thanks

According to my tasters, this is the best King Cake outside of New Orleans! Excellent recipe, prissy and rich with all the egg yolks. Perfect amount of filling, according to the experts. Cheers for a winner!

I have never had king cake before, then I don't know what to compare this to.The dough is very like shooting fish in a barrel to work with and had a nice season. I doubled my filling. I added 1/two cup more of confectioners sugar and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract. I idea filling needed these additions. Was rather blande without these things. I merely used the lemon juice with my glaze ing. and not the milk. I didn't accept a coffee can,so I used my small-scale stainless mixing bowl in center circle. It worked out skilful. My cake band did crack in nearly 4 places(peradventure as well much filling.) I don't think I would double that next time. I thought the lemon juice was too potent in the coat. Next time I will use a cheese mixture I use in my other kuchens and cut way dorsum on the lemon juice in the glaze, or use my regular glaze or canned frosting. We did like this. I hope to try the real thing next month. Thanks so much for sharing Arvilla!

This was delicious and easy enough to brand. My husband doesn't like cakes that are likewise sweet and then he loved this, as well did our children. Information technology was yummy as is or you could definitely double the filling or add a fruity filling for something a footling different
09/27/2004
The dough is easy to work with and the issue was cracking! We tucked in a plastic babe prior to icing, and so sprinkled purple, gilded and light-green edible confetti on the top to add to the Mardi Gras spirit. We have a request to brand it for friends side by side Mardi Gras!
03/20/2006
This got amazing reviews from the Mardi Gras party I made it for. I had not made a block or breadstuff before this so I found the recipe VERY piece of cake to understand and was much easier than I thought it would be-it was well worth the time. Not likewise sweet a little bready and very good!
03/02/2006
A fair amount of work, but the effect was worth it! Side by side time, I'll definitely double the amount of filling, and find a less-lemony glaze for the top. It wasn't bad tasting, but information technology was a fiddling stiff. :) Information technology was a bang-up mode to add a lilliputian flair to our Mardi Gras dinner!

Every bit a lifelong New Orleanian, I don't mitt out these five stars lightly. This is a seriously delicious king cake! The dough is very resilient and rich. There's no i authentic recipe for king cake; people tend to get really artistic. My personal taste is to non utilise nutmeg. Next fourth dimension I try this recipe, I will probably not use a filling & braid the dough (actually filled king cakes only started showing upwards in the last 15 years or so). This fourth dimension, since I have a agglomeration of Meyer lemons to utilise up, I made a lemon curd for the filling. It mostly was absorbed into the cake, which wasn't a bad thing at all. Be WARNED: The kickoff to finish time on this recipe is much longer than 2 hr., 45 min. That's really merely the rising time and doesn't include associates, kneading or baking. I'd say from start to finish, you should permit at to the lowest degree iii 1/two hours.
03/02/2003
Great recipe! The dough is very sticky and low-cal, simply be careful not to add to much flour while kneading it. Rolls out bully. Filling is perfect. I had to lookout information technology closely because the top got also brown before the cake was baked through - just move to lower rack and cover the block with foil. Also, the icing is too thin - needed at least 1/2 cup more powdered sugar. Will brand again next year.
02/27/2011
This is my favorite king cake recipe! I lived in New Orleans for six years and I missed being able to purchase a king cake, so I set out to observe a recipe that I could use to make a king block on my ain. To our family unit, this tastes like authentic king cake. I, nonetheless, don't employ the foam cheese filling. My kids don't like it and I shape mine into a braided ring instead of a tube. It'south much prettier. I don't intendance for this icing recipe either. I brand my own with butter or cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, almond excerpt, vanilla, and rum extract (a piddling of each). I brand it between spreading and drizzling consistency. I just employ store bought regal, light-green, and yellow sprinkles on tip of the icing. I take made this many times over the past five years. There is no need for a java tin can. I promise. Exist prepared-sometimes the dough is slow to rise. Let your melted butter cool downward some before adding to the yeast mixture or it will kill the yeast. This king block almost lives upwardly to Gambino's-almost.
03/02/2010
Would be better if the recipe included braiding instructions. More authentic & worth the effort. The "frosting" came out and then thin it was literally watery. Ran right off of the COMPLETELY cooled block and pooled in the middle. Non pretty & left virtually nothing for any sprinkles to stick to. Taste of the cake was expert, but volition wait for another frosting recipe.
03/05/2011
This was an easy recipe to brand, and very popular at my Mardi Gras party - people welcomed the opportunity to accept home leftovers. It wasn't too sweet, and was lite and had a nice flavor. The lemon counterbalanced the sweetness nicely - I think I could have added but a bit more to the icing flavor-wise, and cut back on the milk. I made it the twenty-four hours earlier, but I don't think I'd allow it sit whatever longer than that. I made 1.five 10 the filling and added pecans, and had no bug with splitting. The only problem I had is that this turned out to be a Large cake - it barely fit on my cookie sheet. Next time I may roll a shorter, wider strip. It held its shape without a coffee can in the middle, no problem. Overall a great recipe, and one I'm sure I'll be chosen upon to make once more next Carnival season!
02/16/2010
This rex block is delicious! I fabricated a few small changes. I zested a whole lemon into the dough and it turned well – a little zip of lemon but not overpoweringly lemony. I added a expert dose of pecans to the filling, it'southward non a king cake if it doesn't have nuts in information technology. Equally others have noted, I probably would double up on the filling next time. It tastes wonderful, but I could apply just a little more. I too only added 1 tbsp of lemon juice into the glaze and concluded up adding 3 tbsp of milk and it was the perfect consistency. Mine cooked at 350 in exactly 30 mins. I also added sugar on acme – ¼ cup of sugar and 1/two drops of food coloring to go those pretty Mardi Gras colors. I would definitely make this block again. Happy Mardi Gras.!!. Laissez les bon temps roulez!
03/09/2011
This was my beginning I'd e'er fabricated! It was hard to get the pieces wide plenty for the filling without it oozing out, BUT was delicious nevertheless! I got lots of compliments and the filling was peachy. I did apply my own frosting though -- corking block! Someone even told me information technology was better than one they'd had that was store bought.
01/07/2011
Made this for Epiphany. Followed the directions exactly and it is succulent! Nosotros idea the filling was simply the right amount. The icing was too watery, but I just added more powdered carbohydrate until the consistency was right. Tasted great.
02/21/2012
No one else mentioned information technology but I constitute four cups of flour too little for this recipe. Information technology was besides gooey to fifty-fifty knead. I added an additional cup of flour and information technology worked out. Also, I call up I adopt the king cakes with a cinnamon roll type filling. This cake was expert but not sweet enough for me. If yous don't desire an overly sugariness scroll so this is the recipe for you.
02/04/2010
Very dry out. The cream cheese filling did not add together anything to the block every bit a whole. I was pretty disappointed with the over all results fifty-fifty though it did wait pretty. I'll figure out my own recipe for adjacent fourth dimension...
02/02/2012
The dough was the consistency of cake batter. Even with another loving cup of flour information technology wouldn't come up together in a ball.
03/07/2011
Okay, then the dough came out great tasting, although i didnt bake as much as i would have liked information technology to for that dainty staff of life texture. I practice take to say that the icing had a tad too much lemon to it, so next time i will cut the lemon juice to less than 1/iv cup. Happy Mardi Gras. :D
02/18/2012
This was great! Made it pretty much to the recipe (ingredients/methods) because I'one thousand not the best baker! I did 1 1/2 the cream cheese filling and 3 Tbsp milk/2Tbsp lemon juice for the glaze - this was a good consistency for drizzling. I did scroll up the dough jelly-gyre style and tried to twist it as I formed into a ring on my baking canvas. We DID put the infant in before baking after much word and he came out unscathed! I made my own colored sugars with food coloring, as I call up a true King Cake needs sugar, not sprinkles, on height. Everyone at the party raved over the cake and had seconds. To me, information technology had a wonderful yeasty cream-cheesy flavor. DH said it could've used more filling, but I thought information technology was fine at 1 ane/2. Volition save the recipe and make again! Thanks!
03/06/2011
I followed the directions to a T and somehow my dough didn't rise enough, and didn't fully bake. Assistance! It wasn't former/dried yeast, it was freshly bought, and I kept it in the microwave to rise for over 2 hours. What is the deal? Pastries merely hate me.
01/07/2012
I made this for an epiphany party this year (the King in King cake comes from the Three Kings for epiphany - it is served between Jan 6th (epiphany) and Mardi Gras). This was my first domicile made 1 and it was DELISH!! I have never tasted ameliorate!!! It was only the right level of sweet and yeasty. PERFECT!
08/05/2008
Made for Fat Tuesday at work. Received many adept reviews - the one that meant the most was from a co-worker from the New Orleans surface area that stated it was the all time best she e'er had.
02/16/2010
I totally didn't like this. And my co-workers gave mixed reviews as well. Fifty-fifty though it was soo pretty to look at, it was dry and the lemon juice in the sugar glaze was over whelming and over-powering and I honestly couldn't stomach the cross between the nutmeg in the block (even idea I like nutmeg) and lemon in the glaze. The combo of the two merely didn't work in my opinion. None of my co-workers liked the lemon sugar coat either. I'm totally deplorable for the bad review. It's not a Mardi Gras King Cake I call up having.
03/14/2010
This was and then great! Love the lemon flavour. I nigh one and a halfed the filling. I fabricated both this recipe and the King Block recipe with the dark-brown sugar filling and this was the favorite at the political party. Great the next day too for breakfast.
03/21/2011
AMAZING! I added a piddling jam to role of the cake & it did dissever, simply just where the jam was, next time I will serve the jam on the side!
02/26/2012
My eleven yr old daughter and I fabricated this together and information technology was wonderful! We doubled the recipe for a Mardi Gras party held for International students. It was gobbled up! Ane thing I would change - every bit others have said, making the glaze as written resulted in information technology running all over the counter. When you lot make yours, add the liquid slowly to get the consistency you want. I think we added 2x the amount of conf sugar before glazing the second cake and that was perfect. Love it!!! Thank you Arvillalar
02/22/2012
Not bad recipe. I did decrease the lemon juice in the glaze after reading the other reviews. Didn't really measure, just kept adding until I had the taste and consistency I wanted. This was the first time I ever fabricated a king cake and it was a HUGE SUCCESS! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
09/03/2010
Was delicous and I was told it tasted authentic.
02/23/2007
This was a fun recipe. I likewise was concerned near the lack of rise, but information technology did non affect the sense of taste at all. I reduced the amount of powdered suger and added cinnamon, dark-brown carbohydrate and chopped pecans to the filling. It was delicious.
06/29/2009
Really dissapointed, the cake was fairly flavorless, and dry out. I swear I am good at baking (practise it often plenty). Still looking for the perfect King Cake recipe!
01/twenty/2011
Wow! Bully recipe! I accept made many rex cakes and the dough was then great! I did a regular cinnamon sugar filling and information technology was so good!
03/25/2009
I'k a transplanted Gulf Coaster who wanted a taste of home- this was so good! I did the beginning steps in my bread machine on the dough setting, turning it out of the pan to curlicue and fill information technology earlier the last ascent. I also did not add lemon to the icing.
03/xv/2014
I had never had King Cake before, just I wanted to make this for Mardi Gras to accept to work. I used this recipe, and information technology was wonderful! My coworkers loved it! I had ane coworker from New Orleans who raved that this was just similar the King Block from the Big Easy, and the Cakes (I made ii) went fast! I did make a few adjustments based on reviews and taste. I accidentally did 2 c. of confectioner's sugar to the filling, and so I balanced information technology out with a couple of Tbsp. of lemon juice (gave it a nifty taste!). I besides spread the filling on the dough and rolled it like a jelly roll instead. The lemon and cream cheese was only correct, and it balanced the block perfectly! My only business organisation with information technology was that it was very dense and a the lesser burned a little. But overall, information technology will definitely become a Mardi Gras staple for me!
02/26/2004
I came out with two small cakes. One had cream cheese filling (8 oz brick of low-fat cream cheese and nigh three/4 cup of powdered sugar) and the other i/2 can of cherry pie filling. Everyone at work loved them.
01/24/2009
I ordinarily fly a cake in from NOLA, just this year I decided to make information technology. The recipe is mostly proficient, but the icing had incredibly too much lemon. It upset my stomach even. I am making some other ane tomorrow and will cutting the lemon downwardly to perhaps 2tblspoons and add more milk to substitute for the lack of lemon juice.
01/16/2008
This turned out actually yummy, despite the fact that I didn't realize I had no all purpose flour until it was time to add together it - I used 3 cups of self rising flour, and one cup of whole wheat, and it Nonetheless turned out groovy tasting! Tastes very authentic.
02/24/2009
I used this recipe more than as a guide to make a cream cheese filling for my King Block. I used 4 oz foam cheese, one cup powdered carbohydrate, ane/2 tsp vanilla extract, and ane tablespoon of butter. Also, I made the "Mardi Gras King Cake and had two cakes and then I stuffed this filling in ane of them. I know information technology isn't at all the recipe just like I said, I used this recipe more than equally a guide for cream cheese filling.
02/15/2010
Well, I don't know how to rate information technology. It tastes pretty good, just I had to cook it for -- wait for it -- 2 & 1/2 hours. Later the beginning 30 minutes, I took information technology out & allow information technology cool to room temp to run across if it was done. It had split in i department, & looking in that department (ok fine, poking a finger in) I was able to tell that it was NOT in fact washed at all. And so I put it back for xv minutes. And again. And once more. And again. Until it was finally done. But I should signal out -- I had no coffee can, and then my center was a ramekin filled with water & I call up this negatively affected the cooking time. I think it kept the middle warm & moist, instead of hollow & hot. Then while I tin't give it a perfect 5 (not enough filling for how much dough, not done in time & I can't exist sure that'south my fault) I do give it a solid iv because the flavor of the dough is VERY good & information technology was quite the easiest roll-out dough I've ever used. I didn't even accept to roll it, only patted it into shape & it held properly without tearing. My adjustments were that I used the zest of my entire lemon in the dry ingredients rather than measuring my zest (why waste it, we love lemon); used more lemon juice, some almond extract, and then more than saccharide to compensate for extra fluids, in the icing. (Used the almond extract to help mask the flavor of the powdered sugar, which nosotros don't like.) While I'1000 not sure if I'll make this item recipe again, I do recommend it to get-go-time yeast bread bakers!
02/21/2011
The dough is very easy to work with, and the but modify I made was to use orange zest instead of lemon,, since I had no fresh lemons. (Nonetheless used lemon juice for the glaze, though.) Smashing flavor and texture, and a wonderful recipe to make with little ones. My 2-year old helped every step of the way. I did end upwardly putting information technology bck in the oven for another 15-twenty minutes later on removing the ramekin I used to hold he middle shape. It just did non become baked through there, but the extra fourth dimension was perfect, and did non over-dark-brown the rest. (I did employ an insulated pan to prevent over-browning on the bottom.) Then easy, calorie-free, and has a corking flavor. I'll definitely make this once again.
02/21/2007
I really liked the taste of the bread, only I had a hard time getting it to rise?? I"one thousand not sure if I should have let the egg yolks get to room temp or if I used to much flour?? At any rate, I would recommend doubling the cream cheese filling and instead of mixing 1/2 cup of powdered sugar per 8oz cream cheese, I recommend i/2 cup of regular white sugar.I idea the amount of powedered carbohydrate left to much of a salty cream cheese flavor instead of the sweeter pastry flavour I was subsequently.
02/24/2009
I am from Louisiana and now live in the southwest. Today I was homesick for Mardi Gras and ecspecially King Cake. The "cake" part of this recipe was absolutely delicious. Equally for the glaze, side by side time I would like information technology to be a trivial more thick - it was really runny. I would maybe endeavor less lemon juice or more powdered sugar. Equally a whole, I would use this recipe again, just attempt a unlike frosting for the elevation. Thank you for curing my homesickness today, Fat Tuesday!
03/05/2012
Absolutely delicious. Though the coat is very sweet it withal tastes good.
02/23/2009
Being that this was my starting time time attempting any kind of a staff of life recipe, I'll endeavour not to be too judgmental. Nevertheless, I establish the cake to be a picayune dense(perhaps it needed more than rise fourth dimension?), and the glaze was way too runny with most of information technology catastrophe upward around the cake rather than on information technology. Too, I remember it needed a footling more than filling. The gustation was wonderful, but texture and consistency wasn't annihilation like I would wait a king cake to accept. I call back I'll keep the filling recipe and keep looking on the cake i. Thanks!
02/18/2012
My block turned out very dry out. Mayhap I did something wrong, but I was expecting more from a block that contains 5 egg yolks. The search continues. 1 thing I would alter for certain-spread the filling on most of the dough, then roll up lengthwise so information technology has a swirl effect when cut. I didn't do that with this recipe and had large areas of dough without filling, which only added to the dryness.
02/18/2012
My cake turned out very dry. Peradventure I did something wrong, merely I was expecting more from a cake that contains v egg yolks. The search continues. One affair I would change for sure-spread the filling on nigh of the dough, then ringlet upwardly lengthwise so it has a swirl effect when cut. I didn't do that with this recipe and had large areas of dough without filling, which just added to the dryness.
03/01/2006
I loved this recipe. Information technology was delicious and like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I brought it into my office on Fat Tuesday and anybody LOVED it. There wasn't a piece left over.
01/31/2008
Existent GOOD
02/07/2008
Is it me, or is this recipe really yeast tasting? I make bread and cinnamon rolls all the time. I am wondering if I am just comparing the taste besides much. I really didn't like the strong yeast flavor of this recipe. I might try it again with only 2 1/2 teaspoons (1 bundle) of yeast. Anyone else take the same thought?
01/24/2019
Lacked flavour.
03/02/2009
Very yummy. Loved the lemon flavor. Was even ameliorate the second day.
03/25/2004
Such a fun cake to brand and succulent!
03/06/2003
Wonderful recipe. The bread was perfectly spiced and the cream cheese rich and creamy. This is a groovy breakfast food.
06/06/2008
I do not accept luck with staff of life recipes, to start off with. So the fact that this didn't come out at all well, it may simply exist me. The bread was exactly that, breadstuff - not the sweetness, brittle block that King Cake is so famous for.
02/11/2013
This was my first time baking a Rex Block and this turned out improve than any King Block that I've e'er bought. This recipe is a keeper!
03/04/2014
The fix fourth dimension is misleading merely overall its a good cake.Information technology took a lot longer than I thought it would.
02/24/2009
This is a groovy recipe and relatively easy to make although very time-consuming. My only complaint is that the "ready time" says 2hrs 45min. It takes the dough that much time to rise!
02/24/2010
This is an splendid recipe.
03/25/2009
I was very pleased with my first attempt to make a Male monarch Cake -years ago when my sister lived in NOLA, she sent us a king block. I never dreamed it was this circuitous to brand. I loved the lemon icing, as did my family. I volition definitely make this once more. I did use a double recipe of the filling - it definitely needed it.
01/08/2013
This was my offset effort at a King Cake, I made information technology for Epiphany with the family. It is a nice, yeasty sweetbread with a delightful cream cheese filling and lemony glaze. I did change the procedure by using my bread car. I performed all of the steps the same, just added the ingredients equally directed into the staff of life auto and allowed it to knead/rise in at that place. I had problems with the eye of the cake not fully blistering around the can, and so possibly I had the dough also snug around the can? I would propose others to leave a small gap betwixt the center of the ring and the can. Likewise the coat, while lemony and delicious, did not adhere well to the cake, and most of it ended up on the plate beneath. I would utilise a little less liquid next time. The cream cheese layer was still slightly warm when nosotros ate this--what a treat! I would consider using a little more filling side by side time. Nosotros decorated ours generously with colored large granule decorating sugar. This adds to the overall sweetness, and looks nifty. The family loved this treat, thank you for the great recipe.
01/06/2009
The filling is good. The glaze was manner too runny and the bread was dry. I will probably await for another recipe the adjacent time I make King Block.
03/10/2014
I am not a bread baker and don't usually piece of work with yeast, then I was worried about trying to make this. However, I did, and the results were nifty! I followed the recipe exactly (only 1.5 on the filling, as others suggested and reducing the amount of lemon juice in the glaze). Otherwise, it was easier than I idea it would be! It is time consuming though, the "gear up in" time listed on here is probably 2 hours too curt. My dough didn't seem like it was rising very chop-chop at all, and afterward an hr of waiting, I just turned my oven on to 200 and sat the bowl on height of the stove (just to warm information technology upwards a bit) and that worked perfectly. I accept a lot of family in New Orleans, and I've had my share of Rex Cakes, and this i was delicious. My kids were not a fan of the cream cheese filling, but my married man and I loved information technology. I had him take information technology to work, and they finished information technology off. It'south a pretty practiced size, bigger than I thought information technology would be. I will definitely brand this once again, just maybe I'll change upward the filling so my kids will consume it too. :)
02/13/2008
I don't think you should put the baby in before baking. Mine is plastic, and that would be a health hazard. I put the baby in after a piece is cut, so my daughters can detect it. I go along the babies from each year, so at present I have quite a few to sideslip into a slice if we have guests.
02/28/2017
The plastic baby shouldn't be broiled in the cake. It is generally pushed into the bottom of cake after baking :) great recipe!
01/25/2014
I've used this with My little variations every twelvemonth now for several years but we go a little lighter on the nutMeg. Information technology'due south written corporeality is kind of strong in this original recipe for united states of america. Careful with your yeast and follow directions if your new to using it. If you don't at that place is a hazard information technology won't ascension. Happy baking and welcome friends and family.
02/14/2008
I made this for my French II class and information technology was a big hit! I would definitely reccomend this.
02/09/2016
I accept used this recipe for many years every mardi gras. It's pretty huge for my fam of 4, merely there are never whatsoever leftovers. So that says a lot :) currently in the oven now. Happy mardi gras!!!
08/20/2017
Pretty good. I added a tsp of cinnamon to the dough and will up that the next time I make this. The King Cakes I remember from Baton Rouge and New Orleans had a much more pronounced cinnamon gustation than this one. Besides, I will add together more powdered sugar to the filling adjacent time. It was a piffling tart for my taste. The texture of the bread was beautiful and the niggling bit of lemon zest in the dough and juice in the glaze was heavenly.
02/16/2021
It's gonna gustation peachy - even though information technology's a bit ugly. I didn't have yellow or purple saccharide, then I colored the icing yellowish... and then tried swirls of purple. Decorative neglect, but yummy. I made one-half the recipe and baked it in a pie pan.
02/23/2009
We institute this recipe to be very bland and dry...we ate a couple of pieces and concluded up throwing most of it out!
02/25/2020
I've never heard of using sour cream in a king block recipe. I've fabricated so many of these through my life I could not tell yous how many as I am a chef from New Orleans. I've also never put lemon zest into a king cake that's another matter that is unnecessary. Making cakes take yeast sugar milk and vanilla along with eggs butter flour and common salt. That's all that'southward needed in a male monarch cake. Original King cakes did not have cream cheese or strawberry or boudin sausage! People getting crazy with they are stuffing king cakes with. Original King cakes we're only stuffed with a babe! If you lot want to be authentic with your male monarch cakes employ a recipe like mine. They are easier to make and taste very good and that'southward what y'all desire on both counts! Not this BS! And you definitely don't need five eggs especially just the yolk. I use two whole eggs!
02/04/2013
outset time making a Male monarch Cake and anybody loved it! I found it very easy to make, only change was not adding every bit much liquid into the glaze at the end, it would have been style to runny. It was beautiful, yummy and easy- thank you!
04/eighteen/2009
I am from New Orleans and really was non impressed with the flavor at all. My hubby did savor it though!
04/23/2015
Dear this "cake"!! Cute and very, very good. I doubled the filling to make it really stand out. I too used a version of this dough for Easter rolls and cinnamon rolls. So skilful. I do cutting the salt in half, which makes it less salty and I use thicker glaze so it stays in place amend. Add together at least one more cup of powdered sugar and leave out the milk in the coat.
01/27/2016
Information technology was very succulent and the all-time King Cake I accept made at domicile. The dough was a piddling dense compared to one's we have tasted in New Orleans. I am non certain if I needed to kneed it longer or if there is an outcome with the quality of the flour. Only if I can get the bread to be more than fluffy and calorie-free....it will be perfect!
04/18/2009
I am from New Orleans and really was not impressed with the flavor at all. My husband did bask it though!
03/03/2014
Never made a male monarch cake before! I chose this ane because information technology didn't comprise nuts, as some of the others did. My one pregnant adjustment was in calculation nigh ii cups more powdered saccharide to the glaze. Originally, it was too thin and runny, besides as nearly transparent. I wanted the expect and texture of a solid white icing, and then I added several more than spoonfuls if powdered saccharide. Will make once more side by side year!!
